Research
Students attracted to scientific inquiry have the benefit of a coordinated research program in the social and natural sciences that results in frequent recognition in national and local competitions. For example, Hewlett High School is routinely represented in the prestigious Intel Student Science Talent Search and in the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at Adelphi University. Communication and the Arts
Creative minds can delve into advanced multimedia art (Hewlett portfolios are highly ranked by colleges and universities) and a music program that is one of the State's strongest and most recognized (Hewlett is a National Academy of Music Arts and Sciences school). The works of art of students have been exhibited at the state level, and musicians have performed in Italy.

Courses in architectural drawing, web design, journalism, advanced journalism, and theater offer an outstanding foundation for students whose interests and goals lie in these directions.

Business and Career Preparation
Those with an entrepreneurial spirit can take advantage of business courses that reflect evolving technology while stressing traditional fundamentals such as accounting, business law, and marketing. Hewlett has extensive participation in the Future Business Leaders of America, and many students become involved in internships and shadowing programs that provide real-life work experience. The Senior Experience and Senior Project programs provide opportunities for students to explore interests and possible careers.

Hewlett-Woodmere is one of three districts in Nassau County that is certified as a CISCO CCNA Academy. CISCO is an industry leader in the networking field. Mrs. Rose Panarelli, a business education teacher, has been certified by CISCO to run an academy here. Opportunities are available for students in 11th and 12th grade to participate in this two-year program that can qualify them to have this industry certification.

Advanced Study
Hewlett ranks very high in both the percentage of its students taking college-level Advanced Placement courses and in the high incidence of students named Advanced Placement Scholars. In addition to its particularly wide selection of 25 Advanced Placement courses, Hewlett offers college-credit courses from SUPA, LIU/C.W. Post, SUNY Albany, SUNY Farmingdale, Molloy.

Support for Struggling Learners
Both special and general education programs assist learners to meet New York State Learning Standards and assessment requirements. The Regents-Plus Ninth Grade Team, inclusion and extended-time classes, extra-help, Math Support Program and the Writing Center provide support for students.

Co-curricular activities range from an extensive list of varsity, junior varsity and intramural sports teams to more than 50 clubs that include interests in the arts, technology and science, languages and public service.
